Vegetable Butters are natural fats with a high symmetrical monounsaturated triglyceride content. They are solid or semi-solid at ambient temperature. Derived from a wide variety of natural sources, Vegetable Butters are comprised primarily of saturated fatty acids, in particular stearic acid and monounsaturated oleic acid.

Vegetable Butter Production

Seed Stock to Oil to Butter -
The production of Vegetable Butters begins with the temperature-controlled expeller-pressing of seed stocks. Refining by deodorization allows for the collection of unsaponifiable fractions such as natural paraffin, tocopherols and sterols contained in the oil. Large quantities of oil are required for Vegetable Butter production because the yield of unsaponifiable fractions is very low. It is for this reason that unsaponifiable fractions are blended with the refined expeller-pressed oil that has undergone hydrogenation.

Shea Butter, the fatty extract from the seed of the shea nut, is regarded for its abilities to moisturize and alleviate minor skin ailments. It also contains several natural anti-inflammatory agents and minor sunscreen agents.

Shea Butter

Consistency in Production, Time After Time -Shea Butter (butyrospermum parkii) is a unique Vegetable Butter extracted from the nut of the shea tree. Once prepared for processing, shea nuts are expelled through temperature controlled pressing. The resulting oil solidifies to become crude Shea Butter, which is then either packaged in its unrefined form or refined into a variety of application-specific grades. Our ability to consistently control extraction and refining allows us to offer the highest quality Shea Butters.

Tips on Storing Your Vegetable Butters
Oils by Nature Vegetable Butters have excellent stability. To ensure maximum nutrient retention and longevity of the Vegetable Butters, we recommend adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Avoid direct sunlight and extreme heat.
  • Optimal storage temperature range of 40°F - 80°F provides a shelf life of 12+ months.
  • Vegetable Butters should not be left opened for long periods of time between uses.
